Perfecting your workflow as a designer can be tricky, and for many, it’s a never-ending process of gradually tweaking and improving. A key part of your workflow is having the tools you require on-hand whenever you need them. Fortunately, I am here to help, with 10 essential resources to improve your design workflow.

Efficiency is key in any business, and so wasting time as a designer producing image assets on to which you can place your own designs or mock-ups can be a real drain on time. There are lots of great resources for graphic designers out there though.

I’ve listed 10 essential resources to improve your workflow, and you’ll soon wonder how you ever coped without them!

  • PixelSurplus
    One time-consuming element that can be removed from any project is having some sort of stock design, new font or basic template on to which you can start working. Finding these resources can often take hours off your project before you have started. The guys over at PixelSurplus have a range of free resources for you to use in your work, ranging from iPhone mock-ups to demonstrate that new app design you’ve worked on, right through to free fonts and t-shirt mock-ups.

 

  • Designer Candies
    Designer Candies is another website that comes to your aid with some great fonts, templates and Photoshop assets. Again, there are plenty of freebies to be had here, as well as some premium templates. Be sure to check out the freebies section on the main navigation and admire the many brushes and renders available to download.

 

  • Pixeden
    This is another site that offers designers some fantastic free resources, alongside their premium offering. Of the freebies, there are some great mock-up templates to use, from magazines and t-shirts through to beer glasses and iPhones.They stock a whole range of image assets for designers, including graphics, vectors, web designs, icons and print resources.

 

  • The Hungry JPEG
    Not only does The Hungry Jpeg have one of the best names for a website. It has some pretty great assets for you to use free of charge too. The freebies include fonts, business card templates and many other cool items to save you a bundle of time. We particularly love the iOS kit, giving you a full range of screenshots of iOS software.

 

  • Medialoot
    The guys over at Medialoot have a great range of designer assets for you, including some slightly more unusual ones including keyboard mock-ups, UI kits and even US Presidential Candidate vector sets. And that’s just the free section. If you wish to sign-up up for paid membership, more than 1500 resources will be at your fingertips.

 

  • Graphics Fuel
    Graphics Fuel has a stunning collection of more than 25 million graphics at your disposal, some of which are free. Regularly check the homepage for the latest designs, or utilising the prominent search feature to dive straight into the resources you’re looking for.

 

  • Creative Market
    Creative Market has an incredible supply of assets ready for you to buy, including six free resources every week! You can also browse our own stock of image assets! It’s well worth checking out, and prices start at just $2 per asset.

 

  • Graphic Burger
    Another awesome collection of free and paid-for assets, Graphic Burger gives you everything from packaging and logo mock-ups to retro icons and web templates. There are also backgrounds, text effects and UI kits, meaning you will get a head-start on pretty much any project.

 

  • PixelBuddha
    Another huge mix of amazing free resources and some premium ones, many of which carry special offers at different times, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the cost of any premium assets you may need. There’s also a great blog, “The Journal”, providing news and inspiration for creatives.

 

  • Dribble
    A huge database of image assets, It can be a little overwhelming initially. However, the magic happens when you use the search box in the top right-hand corner. Enter the term #freebies and you’ll be lost in a world of almost endless free assets.
